Did you know that today is a special day? It's called Valentine's Day and it's a day for spending time with people you love, like your friends and your family. Well guess what? Today I got to have fun with my mommy and my best friend Alex and her mommy too! We had a Valentine's Day cookie party. It was soooooooo much fun!
This morning after I woke up, the first thing I did was to help Mommy make the cookie dough. It's a little known technique, but if you poke your flour with toaster tongs first it really makes all the difference. I showed Mommy how to do it.
Here's the dough when it was all done. I inspected it to make sure it was all ready.
Mommy looked around and found all of our heart shaped cookie cutters. I liked the pink ones the best.
This is me in my new apron. Mommy made it for me and then she made me hold still to get my picture taken in it.
And here's Alex wearing hers! Mommy put cherries on hers because Miss Michelle's name used to be Cherry before she got married to Mr. Matt.
Don't we look cute in our aprons?
The first thing we had to do was get all of our stuff organized. Here I am sorting the cookie cutters and getting them all lined up neatly.
Then we picked out the cookie cutters that we wanted to use. Alex liked the red ones best and that was good because they went with her apron.
Next it was time to cut out the cookies. Miss Michelle helped us to reach the dough and get the cookies cut out.
After you cut out the cookies you have to move the dough around.
It doesn't hurt to do a little quality control while you're at it...
After we cut out a few cookies Alex and I decided to take a break and play with some blocks while the moms finished cutting out and baking the rest of the cookies.
Pretty soon it was time to get back to work. When the cookies were cooled off Mommy and Miss Michelle put frosting on the cookies and then us girls got to add the sprinkles!
Here's how it went!
Things got a little messy...
...but that's okay. Alex and I know how to clean up.
Check out how we did on the clean up!
See how beautiful our cookies turned out? Mommy said mine sure had a lot of finger prints on them, I say they had a lot of decorative texture.
The best part was when we finally got to sit down and eat some cookies! Alex picked out the one she wanted to try.
How did we do Alex? Are they as good as they look?
Here's my first bite!
Alex says they're yummy!
Miss Michelle had a cookie too.
And so did Mommy!
After we finished cleaning up, we thought about putting our feet up and taking a rest.
But in the end we decided to go outside and burn off a little energy.
So that's what I did for my Valentine's Day. And Mommy was right, it is a good day for spending time with the people you love.
And you know what else? I think Mommy loves me right back.
