A Little Something Pink for Valentine's Day
Emma had a little photo shoot the other day after her bath. Here are a few of my favorite shots. I've whittled it down from the total 378 pictures that we took. (It didn't last for hours, our camera just has a setting that will allow it to keep shooting as long as you are holding down the button.) If you'd like to see a few more picture (but not the total 378) you can click here to go to the web album. Most of the pictures in the web album are sized to print out as 4 x 6 snapshots, if anyone would like to do so.

Happy Birthday Grandpa
Today is my Grandpa's birthday, so here is a picture of me and him together. Do you see my shirt?!

Starting on Solids
Oh, hi there! So, guess what? I went to the doctor the other day and I am growing girl! My Great-Grandma Hastings says I am growing like a bad weed. I am 25 inches tall and I weight 14 lbs, 14 oz. (That's 75th percentile in both, for those of you keeping a scorecard.) And you know what else? I get to start solid foods!
But here's what I don't get... I thought to be considered a solid a substance has to retain a fixed volume and shape and is characterized by structural rigidity. And also, unlike liquids, a solid object does not flow to take on the shape of its container, nor does it expand to fill the entire volume available to it like a gas does. All this because the atoms in a solid are tightly bound to each other. If that's all true, then why does everybody call it solid food when it just looks like a bowl full of mush, you know, like they talk about in Goodnight Moon?
Yeah, that's right, I know the states of matter. Bet you thought I didn't know about sciencey stuff like that yet, but I do. (Thank you, Wikipedia!) I am one smart cookie! Hey do you think I can eat cookies yet...?
Anyways, keep reading to see what happened on the day I got to eat some real food.
Ah, my first bowl of rice cereal!
Well, here goes nothing...
God, this stuff is awful! And would you watch where you're putting that spoon! It's almost like you're trying to shove it in my mouth!
Can I please just have a bottle?! Where's Mommy? I think I'd rather nurse...

Here's Daddy, strapping me into the high chair. What's with this five-point harness? Are we going to be having a race in this contraption?
Do you guys have anything else you can give me? That doesn't really look too appetizing...

Our first foray into solid food did not go so well... A little while later though, we tried again and things went a little better. It has taken about three days for Emma to get the hang of eating off of a spoon.
Yummy, yummy, yummy in my tummy!
No help needed Mommy, I'll wipe my own chin!
Finger lickin' good!
You outta try your fingers, mine taste great!
A satisfied (and messy) baby!
